Lyrical Action Camp
LYRICAL ACTION CAMP: Because "conscious" is not enough!
If you sing, write, rap, think... this is the place for you!
Minneapolis-based emcee, slam poet, activist, and educator Kyle "El Guante" Myhre will facilitate these workshops/discussion sessions. Other "guerrilla" workshops may be available based on attendance and facilitation. The camp kicks off a series of anti-RNC, pro-community trainings and workshops that will be happening until the convention.
Saturday, 8/30: WRITING EFFECTIVE POLITICAL POETRY
It's easy to stand on a stage and yell about how awful Republicans are. But how can we go further, how can we write poetry or lyrics that really grab people and make an impact on them? Explore moving beyond preaching to the choir. [3 pm in the Weyerhouse Boardroom @ Macalester College (1600 Grand Ave, St. Paul).]
Saturday, 8/30: SPECIAL PERFORMANCE
Featuring El Guante, the Tru Ruts Crew, and other artist/activists. [9 pm @ the Mary Gwen Owen Stage in the Macalester College Campus Center.]
Sunday, 8/31: INTEGRATING THE ARTS INTO ACTIVIST STRUGGLES
There is such a huge potential for positive cooperation between the arts community and the activist community. Too often, however, that potential goes unrealized. How can we effectively integrate the arts-- hip-hop, visual art, poetry, everything else-- into a protest, campaign, or broader movement? [3 pm in the Weyerhouser Boardroom @ Macalester College.]
