Thanks from Denver

From a citizen of Denver, Thank you to all who came to town this past week.

Perhaps what you brought to town is most noticeable in its absence now that people have moved on. Now its noticeable the amount of energy and enthusiasm that was in town last week. The numbers are not what I'd have hoped. I can still dream of what Invesco Field would have looked like surrounded by a million or more citizens demanding and end to the wars. But, the energy and the commitment of those who came was amazing. Thanks for coming.

And, at least offer my own personal apology for how my city treated you. Of course, I didn't have much of a say in that. Wednesday night, Ralph Nader was speaking of freedom being the ability to participate in power. The lead up to this event in Denver was a stark reminder of how little impact citizens can have on what the government is doing in these times.

So, all I can do is apologize for the fact that people trying to exercise their first amendment rights to free speech, to assemble peaceably, and to petition their government for a redress of their grievances were met by surveillance, fences, razor wire, helicopters and what seemed like thousands of police in riot gear.

Of course, all that makes me want to do is to work to change things around here. Real change, not phony Obama change. Then, maybe when we can do it properly, we can invite everyone back for better days in a free city.
