Mankato Hosts Critical Mass!

Critical_Mass____0_0.jpgOn Tuesday June 17th, activists and avid bikers met for the second time at the Flying Penguin bike store in Mankato, MN with the intent of hosting a Critical Mass. The route went along Madison Ave, Broad St and Riverfront drive ending up at Pagliai's pizza on South Front St. All in all, aside from one accident the rally was a success, bringing in about 40 bikers including mayor John Brady.

McCain Gets Taste of What to Expect at the RNC

At 4:30 pm on June 19th, the Anti-War Committee of Minnesota led a demonstration outside the Hilton Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, the site of a thousand-dollar-a-plate fundraiser for the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain. Approximately 100 anti-war and trade union groups demonstrated outside demanding a US withdraw from Iraq and more resources for healthcare, education and infrastructure here at home. Inside McCain's campaign asked his supporters to pay as much as $50,000 a person to have a private reception with the Republican presidential nominee.

A new report from the Campaign Finance Institute has found that while Republican Senator John McCain and Democratic Senator Barack Obama are both running campaigns promising "campaign finance reform," their party conventions are being funded primarily by unlimited and unregulated contributions from corporations.

The nation’s biggest banks are putting the squeeze on students at small colleges. This policy may cut off higher education access to students who need it most.

Blundered flood predictions

Flood forecasts issued by National Weather Service (NWS) offices for the Cedar River in Minnesota and Iowa were blundered.

The NWS office responsible for the blundered crest predictions at Cedar Rapids, which is located in Chanhassen, MN, is called the North Central River Forecast Center (NCRFC).

The flood crest at Cedar Rapids was nearly 10 ft higher than preceding NWS probability products and last week's crest predictions.

NCRFC was created in 1979 as a result of blunder forecasts on the Red River in MN/ND.
